We left Fes at 630 this morning, still dark out, to get an early start on a long day of driving to Marrakech. On the recommendation of a Moroccan friend in San Diego, we stopped for breakfast in the beautiful town of Ifrane, which feels like a European, alpine village. On the way out, we passed a facility with very heavy security, including armed guards posted every couple hundred feet. It turned out to be a royal palace.
