Marrakech is known as 'The Red City' because a large number of its building are painted a similar reddish-tan or salmon color. It definitely has a desert look to it, but it's a bit monochromatic for me. Especially toward the outskirts where large apartment blocks are all the same reddish color, along with the soil and everything else.
